2009 HIV/AIDS Implementers’ Meeting
Windhoek, Namibia | June 10-14, 2009

Optimizing the Response: Partnerships for Sustainability

You are cordially invited to attend the 2009 HIV/AIDS Implementers’ Meeting as a media representative.

The meeting will take place June 10-14, 2009, in Windhoek, Namibia and is being hosted by the Government of Namibia and co-sponsored by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief; the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; UNAIDS; UNICEF; the World Bank; the World Health Organization; and the Global Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS. 

The meeting is expected to draw approximately 1,500 delegates, with the majority traveling from developing countries in Africa and other regions. Participants include a number of Ministers and a wide variety of program implementers, including representatives from faith- and community-based groups and groups of people living with HIV/AIDS.

This year’s theme is “Optimizing the Response: Partnerships for Sustainability.” The meeting gathers together program implementers to share best practices and lessons learned in the fight against global HIV/AIDS. This year’s meeting will focus on widely disseminating best practices and lessons learned during the implementation of multi-sectoral HIV/AIDS programs with an emphasis on boosting the impact of prevention, care and treatment programs; enhancing program quality; promoting coordination among partners; and encouraging innovative responses. Through presentations, dialogue and networking, participants will share information that will directly impact HIV/AIDS program implementation in the coming years.  For more information about the conference, please visit www.hivimplementers.org.

Availability of senior officials, other dignitaries and HIV/AIDS implementers will be arranged. There also will be opportunities to visit HIV/AIDS program sites while in Namibia.
