Small Grant Opportunities
What types of funding opportunities are available?
1. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Grants Program
The U.S. Ambassador’s Special Self-Help Program supports small community-driven projects that improve social and economic conditions in communities across Namibia. Special Self-Help projects are community initiated sustainable projects that can be managed by the community members themselves. Examples of previously funded projects are garden fencing and irrigation systems; provision of boreholes in gardens, schools and in villages; and income-generating projects to support care services for people with disabilities, youth and women. But we welcome new initiatives and ideas! These grants are designed to help communities help themselves. Under this program, projects must originate in the community, and the community must make significant contributions to the success of the project, such as land, labor, money, materials, ongoing supervision and other resources.
2. PEPFAR Small Grants Program
The U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) small grants program focuses on community projects that benefit those infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS or that contribute to the fight against HIV/AIDS in Namibia. PEPFAR grants are also used to support efforts that improve the lives of orphans and other vulnerable children (OVC) affected by HIV/AIDS. Examples of previously funded projects are targeted food and nutrition support for PLWHA and OVCs, construction of HIV/AIDS support group centers, and support for income generating activities for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). These grants are designed to help communities help themselves. Under this program, projects must originate in the community, and the community must make significant contributions to the success of the project, such as land, labor, money, materials, ongoing supervision and other resources.
